So, Joe Bite-me says to black Americans that Romney "gonna put ya'll back in chains!" Funny too, for a moment there, he lost that Maryland accent of his. Don’t suppose he’s faking it, do ya? Well, maybe. Can you get more condescending?

Democrats have no new tricks! Republicans just hate women, poor, blacks, Latinos, we want to starve children and want to give all of our money to the evil rich! I suppose it’s worked for them for decades. Why change it?

This is really funny coming from the people who started a war that would’ve retained slavery, founded the KKK, lynched blacks in the South, voted against the Civil Rights amendment, segregated lunch counters and water fountains, sicked dogs on school children, impoverished a generation by making them government dependents and supported the murder of millions in the womb!

Yeah, Joe! Who do you want in chains?

I am sick at my stomach and thoroughly frosted over the sycophantic press coverage around the death of Saint Teddy the Devine. I suppose they were all trying to make sure they got an invitation to the most recent Kennedy funeral.

Mary Jo Kopechne did not get such favorable coverage. She didn't have the droves of grievers at her funeral. She did get a lot of very catty remarks made in the press about her and her relationship with the married junior-senator.

Somebody tell me, please, just what Teddy Kennedy ever, in his entire life, did for this nation! There is really no major legislation that bears his name. (Except, maybe "No Child Left Behind." Sheesh!) He was a boozer, a philander and a murderer. Not to mention, there was no pile of dead babies stacked high enough to constrain him to be true to his supposed Catholic upbringing and do even the very least to protect the unborn. No, he was more interested in the campaign money he was getting from N.O.W., Planned Parenthood, (there's an Orwellian name for you,) et al.

Teddy Kennedy, like so many in the political world today, was famous for being famous. He was famous, and admired, because he was a Kennedy. John was a war hero; Bobby was, well, he was John's brother too.

I've heard several quotes from the butt-kissing, unashamed liars on the boob-tube, trying to paint Teddy as a statesman who was above the fray. What a load of hog manure!

He was a bitter, jealous man who hated anything remotely attached to traditional family values or genuine Godliness. I've even heard them absurdly claim he never attacked his political adversaries but reached out to them on many occasions. Well, here's one of Teddy's more civil comments concerning George Bush and the war on terror. (Which was, incidently, a war which Teddy never supported.)

"There was no imminent threat. This was made up in Texas, announced in January to the Republican leadership that war was going to take place and was going to be good politically. This whole thing was a fraud."

Here, Teddy stooped so low as to accuse George Bush of manufacturing the war on terror, killing thousands of Iraqi soldiers and civilians, not to mention the thousands of Americans dead, just to advance his own political career. How would Teddy have felt if someone accused John of doing the same thing in Southeast Asia for his own political aggrandizement?

One interesting thing I heard a few years ago is that the Kennedy's are practicaly broke. (Yeah, pretty much down to their last millions. ha!)They've all lived off of Joe P. Kennedy's money for so long that there's almost none left. The rest of the clan has really done nothing productive. (John-John, I think, was the exception.) They're just a bunch of politicians living off trust funds and the tax-payer dollar. Exactly like the tics in my back yard, they're nothing but a bunch of parasites who refuse to get a real job.

Honestly, I would love to be able to just simply say a prayer for the family and forget about all the rest of the dumb stuff, but the over-the-top acclamation for a man who came nowhere near accomplishing anything truly meaningful in his life, is almost more than I can bare. John was a bone-fide war hero; Bobby did...well, not that much either; Teddy was good at getting himself reelected and that for no other reason than his family name. Nothing would please me more than to let this family grieve and say narry a negative word about the deceased senator. The fact is, the poop is being thrown so hard and so fast it's nearly impossible for me to keep from screaming.

Probably, the most nauseating part of this whole burlesque is that Teddy qualifies for burial at Arlington. As a vet myself, I've made it a point to keep up with the regulations for Arlington internment and I don't qualify. Yet, there is this loophole that allows him to slip in since he is a both a veteran and U.S. Senator. (These shiftless civil-servants always take care of one another.) Although I seriously would take nothing away from Senator Kennedy's honorable, yet, uneventful time in the service, the limitied space at Arlington, should be saved for veterans with more exalted service.

I'm only glad there are no more Kennedy brothers. One more Kennedy burial at Arlington and there won't be any space for the real heroes of our nation. Wouldn't it be perfect irony if they transported Teddy's remains to Chappaquiddick and buried him at sea?

I just started reading Barack Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope." I figure if he's going to be my president, I want to know what's in his head.

This won't be easy. Pray for me. Sheesh!

We are all about the "lesser of two evils." We make so many of our decisions thinking, "Well, it could be worse."

Granted, counting our blessings and looking for that silver lining is admirable. Yet, we, far too many times, sacrifice the best for the good.

Now, I'm not one who can set in judgement over anyone! My life is so full of hypocrisies and contradictions that I often don't know which way is up. There are things that I hardly blink at and there are things that I'll die for. Of course, there are many things in the middle that I react to in a host of almost indeterminable ways.

So, what's my point? I'm getting to that.

I certainly don't mean to be harsh or accuse anyone that I'm fond of and respect as being "evil." Still, in this election, as in so many things in life, I hear the words the "lesser of two evils" over and over again.

I am a traditional conservative, (and I know what that means.) I am pro-life, pro-gun and pro-family. I believe their are right ways and wrong ways to do things. I think, with faith in God, we can do the right thing. I am constantly reminded of what my father said, "If any way will do, then no way will do just as well."

Now, we've got a couple of presidential candidates, one of which, is completely unacceptable if you truly believe in a loving, yet, holy God. The other, while a fine man of singular character and integrity, is a hard pill to swallow for us federalist minded conservatives. Yes, John McCain has many good qualities that I admire and respect, but virtually all the Republicans I talk to refer to him as the "lesser of two evils."

Furthermore, I am very traditional in my views on the role of women in the family, society at large and the military. Yet, I am faced with being cornered into voting for a woman to be a heart-beat away from becoming Commander-in-Chief. Ironically, though, I am more closely aligned with Governor Palin, politically speaking, than I am with Senator McCain.

I strongly believe that women should get equal work for equal pay, (but the work must be equal,) should be able to extend their education as far as they can financially and intellectually do so and should be able to have a fair shot at any job they are qualified for, (as long as they are truly "qualified" for that job.)

Yes, women and men are equal in the eyes of God. Still, having differing roles does not degrade one's value as human beings or importance to our nation, family or church. We all have a role to play. None more important than another and all very necessary.

Now, speaking as the male chauvinist pig that I am, I am faced with a great conundrum. Should a woman, even a brilliant, conservative, Christian woman be a heart beat away from the presidency? Simply because she can get herself elected? Even more, should I vote for her?

Supposing I do vote for her and she is elected, what then? If a woman is "qualified" to be president, she is darn well qualified for any job! If she is president, that makes her commander-in-chief or our armed forces. Can we honestly then tell women, who so desire, that they can't be in, for example, combat vocations in the military? If commander-in-chief, why not platoon leader? How about combat infantry? The SEALs? The Green Berets? Where do we draw the line? Will we be able to draw a line at all?

I obviously don't think McCain or Palin are evil, (though, I'm not to sure about the other team,) but I'm just a little tired of hearing people say, "Think of the alternative." I'm also greatly surprised about the many chauvinists that I've been hanging with so many years who seem so easily swayed to cast their vote for a woman.

I really don't mean to degrade anyone...especially women! My mother was a woman. My wife is a woman. My daughter is a little woman. I love them all dearly. I'm just not completely convinced that this move will take our country in the Godly direction we claim we desire.

Furthermore, the homogenization of the sexes sounds like a good idea on the surface to some. Yet, upon closer examination, it opens a Pandora's Box that I fear won't advance our society in the way that some theorize it will.

Finally, I know for whom I'm going to vote. So, I'm going to just shut up, bite the bullet, hold my nose and do what, I hope, is the right thing.

Our local newspaper, the Daily Post Athenian, was kind enough, or crazy enough to print another one of my letters to the editor. It even appeared in the weekend edition. Sheesh!

It seems to have had the intended affect. Most everyone I work with is upset with me. Oh, the fun never stops!

To the Editor:

All right, it's time for someone to say it and it might as well be me. We have entirely too many people voting!

I once firmly believed that as long as American citizens vote, the good old U.S. of A. would ultimately be just fine. Yet, as I approach a half-century of age, I've watched American citizens over and over again choose leaders who have anything but the best interests of our nation at heart. What most do have is a great desire to be elected and then re-elected and then retire with full pension and benefits. Most will tell any story, make any promise and then do just enough to keep themselves employed. Is that all their fault? Not really. Just look who put them in office.

Today, we have people balloting for someone to be inaugurated into the most powerful position in the world who have never so much as read the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution. They can't name their congressmen or senators. They couldn't pick the vice president, or perhaps even the president, out of a lineup. They haven't the slightest understanding of the Electoral College or, worse, don't even know it exists. They have no inkling of how a bill becomes a law or even a cursory knowledge of how our trinitarian federal government functions. They know nothing of our system of "checks and balances." They even think we're a democracy. (No, we're actually a republic.) Yet, these same voters can name all the contestants on "American Idol."

They've taken their children to Disney World four times, the ocean six times, but haven't yet found the time to take them to Arlington. They take their munchkins to every new movie that comes out, but have never watched an hour of the History Channel with them. They turn them over to the government and say, "Here, bring my child back educated." And, oh, what an education they get! They are taught all about birth control (at least the state's version). They're taught we're no better than apes, that there is no God and that the government is our "friend."

I recently asked several people if they visited any veterans' graves on Memorial Day. One 25-year-old replied, "Why would I wanna do that? They're dead." I responded, "What a typical 25-year-old answer." He only chuckled unknowingly. Oh, the apathy!

Do any thinking Americans really believe our country can survive forever with a citizenry that couldn't care less about the price that was paid to preserve our liberty? So many have no idea the blood, sweat, toil and tears required to bequeath us the daily blessings most take for granted. No, freedom did not come cheaply or easily and keeping it will require more of the same sacrifice.

There was a time in our nation when to vote you had to be a white, propertied male at least 21 years of age. Sometimes you had to pass a test and/or pay a fee, even at that. You were generally required to be literate and have some knowledge of your responsibility as a citizen. (On second thought, maybe it's not so much that "too many" people are voting as much as it is the "too many" know too little.)

I'm certainly not suggesting that we return to anything of that nature. Yet, if we believe that the uneducated, illiterate, woefully and willingly ignorant masses of today's electorate would have produced the republic we place our hand over our hearts and pledge our allegiance to today (well, most of us anyway), we are beyond deluded.

Naturalized citizens must pass a test to obtain the privilege of voting. Why not native citizens? What is it about being born on a certain piece of dirt (something over which we have no control) that qualifies us to make decisions that will affect us now and our posterity for generations?

Sadly, our nation is in a politically-correct stupor. We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by telling them, "You don't qualify." Even if they actually don't qualify. We do our darnedest to recruit every potential voter, but never consider if that voter has any idea about, or interest in, the operation of our republic. We fear hurting someone's feelings more than the damage that clueless wonder may do to our country's waning integrity. Sheesh!

When I hear the opinions of the inane and enslaved proletariat, I say a silent prayer that they don't vote. When some confess they don't vote, I'm downright gleeful. Thank God for small miracles!

This is not elitism. Every law-abiding American adult, regardless of creed, religion, color or financial status, should be entitled to vote as protected in the Constitution. Yet, bear in mind, there is no guaranteed "right to vote" in our Constitution. (You don't believe me? Just try to find it.) There is only protection against our government restricting us, for the wrong reasons, from exercising that privilege. Yes, voting is a privilege.

Look, I seriously am not aiming to offend anyone. Frankly though, I am offended at the millions who when given, yes "given," the Godsend of choosing our national, state and local leaders shun the time and effort required to become informed citizens. I am offended at those who are "given" the prerogative to vote and yet, unappreciatively, don't love this great nation. It's heartrending that the American electorate is inexorably trapped in this downward spiral of lethargy and oblivion.

Sadly and lastly, if you cared enough to read this regrettably inadequate argument for excluding the heedless from involvement in our elections, you are likely one who, in my never to be humble opinion, qualifies. The rest? Well, they never got past the funny papers.

What do Hillary Clinton and Robby the Robot have in common? Both are monotones.

Remember in "Lost in Space" how Robot's excitedness was expressed by his simply getting louder? The only difference between "Good morning, Will Robinson" and "Danger, Will Robinson" was the volume.

Listen to Hillary in her speeches. She will drone on and on repeatedly hitting the same pitch making vain attempts at emphases by simply adding more decibels.
She persists with that effected, vapid, condescending tone of hers. She should just go ahead and scrape her nails on a chalkboard and get it over with. It would be about the same.

Granted, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were/are both excellent speakers. They're style was/is natural and they both came across, like them or not, as relaxed and affable.

You'd think bill could help her with a few speaking lessons. I suppose even he can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

So, Al Gore "won" one of those prizes that Yassir Arrafat won? Did he get that for making a video supposedly about saving energy and the planet? I'm curious, did he fly a private jet to Sweden?



I suppose he could use the money. I hear TVA is raising the kilowatt rates on all of his mansions.



Well, it didn't take him nearly as long to get his as it did Jimmy Carter. I guess if he can't get elected president of the U.S., maybe the Swedes would like to hire him.

I still vividly remember when Michael Dukakis, in 1988, was asked in a presidential debate, if his wife was raped and murdered would he then be for the death penalty for the perpetrator. He answered with a curt "no" and then broke into a long diatribe remonstrating the morality and dubious effectiveness of the death penalty.

In a recent Republican debate, a "24" scenario was offered to the candidates in which, I forget all the details, but a number of nuclear bombs had been set off by terrorists and we knew another was about to be exploded. Further, the government, in this hypothetical, had a terrorist in custody whom we were sure had information about the location of the nuclear device. The clock was ticking and we had no solid leads on the bomb's whereabouts. The question was, should we torture him for intelligence or not?

Well, the point, in both cases, was missed. The greater point was ignored.

When John McCain was put to the question, he rambled on about how that if America tortures prisoners, our enemies would think it alright to torture our troops. Now that sounds like a very high idea and nobody was willing to challenge a former P.O.W. who knows from first-hand experience about the awfulness of torture. Still, someone should really have asked him, "What prisoners did we torture that caused the North Vietnamese Communists to think it proper to torture him?" The answer? None!

The communists were infamous for torturing for propaganda purposes. John McCain was not tortured in the Hanoi Hilton for years for information, but for propaganda. His perspective is skewed by his experience. God bless him for his immeasurable courage, sacrifice and love of country, but all that doesn't make him right. The cowardice and confoundedness of his fellow presidential candidates only shows their misunderstanding and lack of resolve concerning this very question.

Alan Colmes also showed his ignorance and insincerity, by flippantly dismissing, without even a moment's hesitation, the thought of torturing a terrorist. I suppose if it was his family in clear, present and immediate danger, he would still take the "high road" and say it's not worth it? Would he still argue that it would diminish American prestige in the eyes of the world? Would he care if it was his family?

This scenario is no longer just an abstract discussion for college class thesis papers. We are now faced with the very real possibility of very real people dying in their thousands at the hands of a small group of lunatics who may or may not be attached to Al Quida or other similar organizations of hate mongers.

The point is that no country, Geneva Convention signer or not, has ever hesitated to abuse and torture American soldiers, sailors and Marines. They have tortured for information, propaganda and for no reason at all. No matter how good we were to Japanese, German, Korean or North Vietnamese soldiers. et al., our servicemen have always been abused in loathsome, unimaginable ways .

Is it our fault? Were our troops mistreated because we somehow mistreated theirs? Was Pearl Harbor bombed because we first attacked Japan? Was the World Trade Center attacked because we attacked the Muslim radicals first? Of course not! (Although, one fool on that stage seemed to think so.)

The next point missed, and one very important, is that you do not torture for confessions. Any moron knows that you can inflict enough pain to get a man to confess to anything you want. (What did you expect, the Spanish Inquisition?) Only an idiot or a monster would torture a P.O.W. for political and/or propaganda purposes or for coerced confessions. Yet, torture for information can be very effective simply because the information is verifiable. The one being tortured can be made to know this and also that the pain will continue if the information is misleading.

Now, I'm not advocating that we mistreat P.O.W.'s just for the sake of it. Most detainees are foot soldiers who know little or nothing about the plans of their leaders. They merely do as ordered. Still, it's a new world and a new enemy where one terrorist can kill tens or even hundreds of thousands with the right virus or dirty bomb.

Torture should never be the first choice, but neither should it's use, under the most extreme circumstances, be flatly forbidden. To some unreasonable individuals in Congress and the media, not providing all the comforts and freedoms of home to mass murderers qualifies as torture. The swine locked up in Club Gitmo, for example, often receive better food and treatment than our own troops and our people would certainly get no such consideration from them.

Taking the "high road" whenever possible is the road that America has always taken and should continue to do so. Any deviation, as is war itself, should be taken with deliberation, contemplation and much prayer. Remember, though, it's entirely possible to hold your head so high that it winds up in the sand...or somewhere even worse!

So, what would Jack Bauer do? Jack, although a fictional character, is, in many ways, a metaphor of America. We don't go looking for trouble, still, not everyone likes us, but neither do we mind. We do the hard work and we get the job done. We understand that, sometimes, getting the job done is all that matters.

Hallelujah! We shall rise!

Fred is in the race! Officially! I didn't realize that he was going to actually make his announcement when I stayed up late last night to what The Tonight Show. I jumped out of my seat!

I haven't been this excited about a candidate since Reagan. (Although, Alan Keyes comes close.) It's about time a real conservative, one with a great chance of winning, got into the race.

Everyone knows who the 5oo pound gorilla is now. Even the candidates knew Fred is the man during the debate last night.

Fred is trying to do things differently; he's trying to do things the right way. He, apparently, is less concerned about being president than being right. One of the many things I respect about the man.

I love George Bush, but am I supposed to believe that another law on the books will cure out porous border problem? It's just another law that won't be enforced.

Furthermore, I really don't appreciate my President insinuating that I don't have what's "best for America" in mind. He and I disagree on plenty and I hope we both have the nation's best interest in mind.

Who are they trying to kid? Whose butt are they trying to kiss? Sheesh!

“No more Vietnams!” I hear it more and more as the war in Iraq goes into another year. “No more Vietnams!” It’s like some sort of macabre rallying cry for those who think that the war in Iraq, or even the War on Terrorism in general, is a waste of American time, resources and lives.

Well, I for one am in full agreement. I say, “No more Vietnams!” No more a war in which the American soldier is called a “Nazi” or a “baby killer”not only by crazed, bitter and anti-American residents of our nation, but by like-minded Congressmen and Senators. No more those who oppose the war cherry-picking disgruntled veterans and using them as naive, (or in some cases not so naive,) propaganda tools. No more a war in which the American soldier is not honored and supported for his service and sacrifice while at the front and on his return home.

“No more Vietnams!” No more a war in which deserters and, if not draft-dodgers, per se, veritable traitors who attack and undermine the policy and strategy of their commanders are called “heroes” by those who loathe the American military and all the goodness for which they stand. No more an American electorate which is so willfully ignorant and self-absorbed that they quickly lose their tenacity because they don’t see a threat that is global, evil, tireless and will not go away just because we don’t want to be bothered.

“No more Vietnams!” No more equating murderous pigs who torture, behead and blow up women and children, not to mention, our soldiers and marines, with “freedom fighters” from our country’s past. No more using euphemisms for the enemy like “insurgent.”

“No more Vietnams!” No more a war where Allied troops win every battle along with the hearts and minds of indigenous friendlies only to have our Congress declare defeat in the face of victory. No more American Senators and Congressmen who don’t have the leadership, patience or intestinal fortitude to fight the good fight and keep the faith even though the battle may be long and hard.

“No more Vietnams!” No more a war in which our Congress passes arcane, myopic and convoluted “non-binding resolutions” designed to micro-manage the war and hog-tie our military because the Legislature mysteriously fears simply cutting off funding for something they claim is wrong. No more our military being slowly bled to death by cowards and small-minded, little men and women who would rather please Hollywood and schmooze with silly, mindless actors than make the mature, hard choices that being at war for our survival involves.

“No more Vietnams!” No more a war where our military’s full might is not unleashed against our enemy wherever they may be including contiguous nations who supply our foe with the wherewithal to murder men and women.No more a war in which the national troops with whom we stand are demeaned and reproached by those who think of themselves as “leaders” of our country.

“No more Vietnams!” No more a war where politicians with aspirations to one day take up residence on Pennsylvania Avenue, deride and falsely accuse our Commander-in-Chief in nothing more than cynical endeavors to advance their own careers. No more pathetic, parochial politicians who believe the world revolves around them and their political campaigns, nay-saying any and every thing that the commanders on the ground and the commander in the White House does to win the war.

“No more Vietnams!” No more giving a tinker’s dam about what the U.N.,the French, the Germans or any other back-water, has-been, jealous of America, petty little “second world” nations think about us or how we conduct our business and our defense! (They really don’t like us anyway, and for my part, with few exceptions, I don’t like them.)

“No more Vietnams!” No more a war where America abandons and betrays our friends and allies who have already sacrificed more than we can imagine and who will pay even more once the “Great Satan” has been sent home with his tail tucked neatly between his legs. No more a war that when that ally is under attack and requests we return to save the day, they receive only a rude “no!” and then fall to the very predator we had given so many lives to protect them from.

“No more Vietnams!” No more war where the only memorial to the sacrifice of our patriots is a wall full of names and not a newly liberated nation where people know freedom, who had not known it before and that our own nation is a little more respected and trusted by our friends. More importantly, our nation is a little more safe and secure and we have a little more respect for ourselves.

No more Vietnams? I’ll say!
